nano2b presents innovative coated powder at the Additive Manufacturing Austria general meeting

On October 2, the time had come: at the annual general meeting of Additive Manufacturing Austria, our managing director Jürgen Bauer was able to present nano2b GmbH as a new member for the first time—and in doing so, he focused on one of the most exciting topics in additive manufacturing: the deliberate coating of metallic powders.

In this blog article, we would like to provide insights into why this technology has so much potential, how it works in practice, and what advantages it offers for companies that want to use it for additive manufacturing (AM).

Why coat powders? – A game changer for additive manufacturing

Additive manufacturing has long been much more than a niche technology. However, the performance of additive processes depends crucially on an inconspicuous but highly complex material: metal powder.

This is exactly where nano2b comes in.

We develop customized coatings that refine powder particles with functional nanomaterials – creating properties that cannot be achieved with standard powders.

What can coated powder do?

  • Optimized coupling of laser light in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF)
Tailored coatings can increase the absorption of laser light. This means more efficient energy input, more stable melt pools, and an overall more robust process. This advantage is particularly evident with challenging alloys.
  • Accelerated alloy development
Developing new alloys takes time, money, and many test loops. With our functional coatings, we can adapt alloys “dynamically” – without having to change the base material itself. This allows material concepts to be tested more quickly and converted into market-ready solutions.
  • New material functionalities
Whether improved thermal conductivity, targeted reactivity, or surface modification—the range is wide. The combination of our coating technology and powder metallurgy opens up possibilities that were previously unattainable.

nano2b at Additive Manufacturing Austria – A strong network for strong innovations

At the AM Austria general meeting, Jürgen Bauer not only presented our company, but also used concrete examples to show how coatings can shape the future of additive manufacturing.

The response was clear: interest in innovative material solutions is growing rapidly. Companies are looking for ways to make their AM processes more stable, efficient, and economical—and this is exactly where nano2b offers decisive advantages.

We are particularly pleased to now be part of this strong network and to develop new projects together with partners from industry, research, and technology.

What does this mean for you and your company?

If you:

  • want to improve your AM processes,
  • want to apply new materials more quickly,
  • want to increase stability, energy efficiency, or reproducible quality in LPBF,

…then coated powders are a solution you should definitely be aware of.

nano2b supports you every step of the way—from feasibility studies to customized powder development.
